Monday June, 27th

Monday June 27th

I had another busy weekend with a wedding on Friday as well as Saturday. The Saturday wedding was in Easton, MD, so Danielle and I stayed there overnight, and drove home early Sunday morning to miss the Bay Bridge traffic. Sunday was more or less an off day for me and Danielle, which is the first one since May. We made the most of it with Danielle napping until 3:30pm, and then running errands to get last minute gear for my Isle Royale trip. Which reminds me, I won’t be posting next Monday, the 4th, everyone have a great holiday, and I’ll update you with photos of my Michigan wedding trip as well as hopefully some great photos from Isle Royale.Friday, June 24th, 2005

Erin and Brian
I had a good feeling about this wedding being a very relaxed and fun wedding. Erin and Brian were married at The Cloisters Castle with an outdoor ceremony. The cocktail hour was held in the courtyard, and the reception was held inside the castle. I really enjoy shooting at the Cloisters, with only a couple exceptions … 1. No AC - that wasn’t a huge issue Friday as it wasn’t as hot as it was for Susan’s wedding on the 10th of June, and 2. The courtyard is a great place for guests to hang out, have a cigar, or just basically chat. It isn’t however a great place to shoot after sunset. Erin and Brian hired Jason Walsh as their DJ. This is the second time I’ve worked with Jason, and he’s done a great job at both weddings. A DJ can be a huge help to a photographer, and Jason has gone out of his way both times we’ve worked together to ensure that we’re on the same page with what’s happening.

Jennifer and Corey

Jennifer and Corey hired me to shoot their engagement photos about one year ago. They never asked me if I was available to shoot their wedding or not, but took the engagement proofs and thanked me saying they were very pleased with the way they had turned out. About a month later, Jennifer emailed me and asked if I would be her wedding photographer. A beautiful and very nice couple, they had their wedding at the Church of Christ in Easton Maryland, and the reception at The Oaks a country inn between Easton and St. Michaels. If anyone’s considering a location on the Eastern Shore, I would highly recommend the Oaks. It’s nice both inside and out and is right on the water.

Isle Royale National Park

While not exactly wedding related information I can’t help but post that all my plans have been finalized for my trip to Isle Royale National Park in Michigan.I leave on Friday July 1st and fly into Marquette, MI, from there, I rent a car and drive to St. Ignace, MI to photograph the wedding of Danielle and Tim.

I leave St. Ignace on Sunday and drive back to Houghton, MI to catch a float plane to Isle Royale where I pick up a canoe and go in search of amazing landscape and wildlife photography. I then fly back on Thursday to Houghton and rush back to Marquette, MI to catch a 6:45pm plane back to BWI.

There are a lot of great websites out there dedicated to information about Isle Royale, and if you are thinking about heading there for some hiking or canoeing, etc, here are some places to start looking for information:

Mike Tremblay’s Info Page more information than you can shake a stick at! Even a breakdown of hiking distances b/w points. I managed to connect with some other people that are planning trips and have already gone through this website, and the information was absolutely crucial to finding information.

Royale Air Service There are basically two ways to get to Isle Royale, the ferries which take about 6 hours to get from point to point, or the airplane which takes 50 mins, to get from point to point. The cost is about twice the cost of the ferry and you can’t take a ton of gear, but having a travel time of under two hours was the deciding factor for me. Not to mention the horror stories I heard about seasickness on the rough trip via the ferry.

The Unofficial Isle Royale Website Again, tons of information, I didn’t use this nearly as much as Mike Tremblay’s ‘info’ site, but I think that’s only because I found it after I found Mike’s site.

And a huge thanks to everyone at Backpacker’s Community Forums who lent me plenty of advice to both get there, get around, and to convince me that it’s going to be a great trip.

I’ve been planning this trip for almost a year, ever since Danielle and Tim hired me to shoot their wedding, and am excited that all the details are set. I’ll post images from Danielle and Tim’s wedding as well as some photos from the canoe trip as soon as I return.

First Weddings on the Blog!

Monday June 20th

Well, it was an exciting and exhausting weekend for both Danielle and me. We shot a wedding in Gaithersburg, MD on Saturday, and then shot another in Cambridge, MD on Sunday. I’m posting images from each wedding as well as brief thoughts about the days. Hopefully this will become the norm for my Monday posts.

Tracey and PaulTracey and Paul hired me over a year ago to shoot their wedding. So when the time came to shoot it I think I may have been as anxious as she was. Meeting with both her and Paul, I was able to get a little of their story, and understood how big a day this was going to be for both of them.Church: St. Peter’s Church, Rockville, MDThe churchwas DARK on the inside - I was shooting W 1/15th or 1/30th of a second with my 70-200 wide open at 2.8, thank god for monopods! Even though it was dark, the light that was there was beautiful.

Reception: The Holiday Inn Gaithersburg The cocktail hour was housed at the pool, and under a tent providing some great light for candids prior to the reception. The reception was a blast with people dancing all night and a weeper of a toast from Tracey’s dad.

Sunday June 20th, 2005

After 20 years together, Penny and Jerry tied the knot officially in Cambridge, Maryland. Both Penny’s father and Jerry’s father were central to the ceremony and events of the day. Penny had told me when we talked initially that if not for her father’s desire for her to have a ‘traditional’ wedding, she and Jerry probably would have had a much smaller affair. Her father helped in most of the aspects of the wedding including picking out the dress “the one with the jacket” he told her “definitely the one with the jacket”. It was an honor be be allowed to document such a momentus day.

Ceremony: Open Bible Church, Cambridge Maryland

Reception: The Cambridge Yacht ClubOther than the emotion of Penny’s dance with her father, my favorite part of the day was when Penny’s neices went out back of the yacht club after a brief storm passed over. The light and the wind made for some beautiful shots, I could have kept shooting them playing, and throwing sticks into the wind for hours.
